They didn't have to cart them far; just a few blocks up Grand and they were home.

At the Staples Center last night, LA Opera took home two Grammys, for Best Classical Album and Best Opera Recording, for media based on its 2007 production of Kurt Weill's Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.

"I am so proud that LA Opera's production of this powerful masterpiece has been singled out for this honor," Plácido Domingo told media today.

You might like to re-visit LA Opus's review of Mahagonny by Rodney Punt from February 2007. Punt said of the production: "James Conlon’s direction of the musical forces, like everything he has done so far for the LA Opera, sets musical standards way up in the stratosphere."
